Minor Project reflection blog
week 1
First week, we didn't have much of an idea of what was going on other than searching up what were earthships. We formed our groups and talked about who would be a good target audience for marketing to. We learned how to figure out who to target from this.
week 2
For this week we chose to target the millennial age range as we thought they would have the biggest income and have the buying power for our campaign towards them. We were missing an entire theme and direction to go for this project and I think we didn't really understand what Mr Mike meant by direction, theme and message.
week 3
We didn't figure out what was the anchor for our project yet and it was a bit frustrating because I didn't understand what was an anchor at this point, Then we started coming up with the idea to target kids because they were our future and we thought teaching them to see earthship functions as natural would be a good message to do by making it more child friendly.
week 4
We visited the Bangsar house which opened my eyes to sustainable living in an urban area where it was still quite comfortable and not a huge hassle. I really wanted to live in a sustainable house and going there made me realise it's not very hard to do so.
week 5
We presented our idea to make an e-comic to Mr Mike and he proposed maybe we went bigger than an e-comic and made an event surrounding that comic hence we started on the beginning to the lovearth campaign. It was a bit daunting to think that we had to make a comic connecting earthship functions to natural functions found in nature without really having a clear idea yet. On top of that we'll have to plan workshops and events as well.
week 6
We started planning the event and why schools should take us in to hold the event there. Then we were told to think about the nature of our workshops as at the time, then we separated our tasks and I was working on the activity task so I worked with Thooba to make activities. It was fun to try and change some activities to fit our theme and cater to a large amount of people, made me really think about what would work and what wouldn't. We also had to think about how to keep a flow for the workshops so we came up with this come and go system that's kinda like Petrosain's displays.
week 7
Then we were told to think about the nature of our workshops as at the time, our activities were more theory based rather than activity based as we thought the parents would be at the workshops together with their children. Our idea changed to only target the children so our activities changed as well and it was nice to brainstorm with the whole group as some members have experience with sustainable workshops. We also tried to think more into the activities and how they would go, this was quite a fun time as everyone pitched in to think of ideas on how we could conduct the workshop activities. We made the pipe puzzle and tried to work on the ventilation system workshop.
week 8
We came up with our main idea for the comic with the main character being based off Indiana Jones and the story was going to be a mystery/puzzle based comic which mirrors the activities in the workshops. This was where it got very fun to think about the storyline and how to make the comic more engaging.
week 9
We introduced our moodboard for the comic and tried to make a mock up to test the colours for the background and the characters. Noni was easy to put into the environment because we found out her colour palette matched the background's but Clyde's one was a bit hard so I had to change his colours a lot to try and fit the background. He was either too bright or looked really bad in the environment so we changed his colours quite a few times. Later we realised after looking at out moodboard that it might just be because of the line weight that he looked so bad so we added it in and he looked a lot better. This was were me and Jen started the script and storyboard. It was okay at first to write the script to mirror the workshop activities as they were planned already.
week 10
The graphics and comic weren't working well together so we had to find a way to fix this. Graphic wasn't my expertise so I didn't handle this part much, I worked on the storyboard and script instead. It was getting a bit frustrating as we couldn't get the workshop to explain the ventilation system mimicking the termite mount system but we got some help from Mike and went with one of the experiments we found before hand.
week 11
The storyboard was finished this week and I began inking the pages so in this short time to finish the comic, I had all of my focus put into inking the comic that I didn't realise what was happening to the group.
week 12
This week I worked on the photoshop fake screenshots for the campaign event and layout of the event itself and also a bit of colouring for the comic.
week 13
We had the mock up presentation and I, being way too cocky wanted to present everything on my own but then realised how much was missing and the presentation flow wasn't good. It got tiring to keep presenting slide after slide so I realised in a big presentation like this it's much better to delegate the slides and rely on good ol' teamwork. There were a lot of things we had to fix for the presentation like the style of the slides weren't consistent. Organising wasn't my forte so my group mates helped work on arranging the slides and making it look more consistent while I worked on any missing fake screenshot assets for the event presentation.
week 14
Presentation week and I had to go for a job interview so I wasn't able to attend class on Monday then came presentation day and it was stressful but a bit fun if I must say to present what we've been working on for so long. It felt like a huge weight was off my shoulders. From this whole experience, I would say, teamwork is super important and client work needs a lot of critical thinking to pull it off but it was a good experience to learn about making a whole event and product for a client.
